Dr. Marie Patterson Presents at Conference

Dr. Marie Patterson, director of academic fieldwork education in the occupational therapy program at the , presented “Commonalities in Occupational Therapy Level II Fieldwork Failure: A Program Review” at the on April 2, 2022. “This is my first collaboration with Dr. Shannon Levandowski, the Academic Fieldwork Chair of the AOTA Academic Leadership Council. The research presented sought to analyze records from Occupational Therapy students unsuccessful fieldwork experiences for themes about failure” said Dr. Patterson. “It was found that students failing the level II experience struggled with clinical reasoning and soft skills. The results of the study directed program decisions, revealing the need to examine the qualitative experiences of students who fail level II fieldwork.” Dr. Patterson hopes that this research will help guide occupational therapy fieldwork programs throughout the country.
